There is some good news in the world of going green - one of the world's largest energy consumers is accelerating its efforts to transform its economic growth pattern by conserving resources and aiming to become an environmentally friendly society. Can you guess who? China! Yep, China will be holding an international green industry expo from November 24 to the 27 in Beijing! How cool is that? According to Vice Minister of Commerce Jiang Yaoping, "The expo would also provide precious opportunities for foreign companies to get to know and explore Chinese green markets." China also intends to double its capacity for producing solar power. In an effort to spur renewable energy - China is also offering subsidies, loans, tax breaks and premium rates to solar energy development companies. Good Going China! We applaud your efforts to go green! With China and Wal-mart - two powerful sources - going green - there is a lot of hope for improvement in our environment. And, that's something to celebrate. President Obama has decided to award two solar power manufacturing compaines $2 Billion! That's Billion - with a B!! As Quoted in an Associated Press article released on 7/3/2010: "The government is handing out nearly $2 billion for new solar plants that President Barack Obama says will create thousands of jobs and increase the use of renewable energy sources. Obama announced the initiative in his weekly radio and online address Saturday, saying the money is part of his plan to bring new industries to the U.S. "We're going to keep competing aggressively to make sure the jobs and industries of the future are taking root right here in America," Obama said." This is good news for the economy, jobs and the future of solar power. Solar power has pros and cons - the biggest con being the cost. More investment means lower cost, so this major investment by American taxpayers may be a step in the right direction for long term efficiency improvements that could lead to affordable solar energy!
