This guest post gives several tips to create a green kitchen. Using green cleaning products is just one step, this article presents several more.

A Green Kitchen by Scott Rodgers

Due to our earlier faults and careless attitude, the environment has really tolerated a lot. But now, we all understand this fact and more and more people are joining hands to reduce the effect on environment. Steps to achieve a green kitchen are easier than ever.

For starters, use CFL or LED bulbs in place of the traditional incandescent lighting in your kitchen. It has a lot of advantages. It is very durable and fits in the same socket as that of normal bulbs. It uses about three quarters less electricity.

It is recommended to build your kitchen in the outside portion so that it is easier for natural light to enter.

If you are in the market for a new appliance, be sure to look for the Energy Star symbol, as these products are more energy efficient.

Go in for convection ovens rather than conventional ovens.

Induction cook tops are greatly more efficient than gas or electric range tops with a power saving of 40 to 70 percent. These cook tops use induction heating which involves an electromagnetic field causing resistance in an ferrous pot or pan.

Make sure your range hood is cleaned frequently and working properly. A poor range hood will not ventilate properly, creating a hotter kitchen and higher cooling costs. There are many energy efficient hoods in the market.

If the budget is not a constraint, and you are going in for a whole new look for your kitchen, use products made up of recycled materials including paper, stone, concrete and plastic etc. you can also opt for bamboo that is a renewable produce.

Use the smallest size pot or pan necessary for the cooking task. A smaller cooking surface requires less energy to heat. Also, match the pan to the size of the burner.

Use a microwave for small tasks like melting butter.

Minimize the impact of your trash and don't use plastic bags. They cannot be decomposed and recycled. Try to use brown paper bags.

Do not rinse plates before loading them in the dishwasher. Instead, scrape into the garbage can and load them dry.

Unplug all electrical appliances when not in use. They suck energy from the power source if they are not switched off.

Try to go organic whenever you can. Start going organic in your own backyard - "Your Easy Organic Gardening Guide" can be used for yard care, as well as, growing your own healthy food.
